We all carry wounds, but what if those wounds weren’t just obstacles—they were keys to unlocking our greatest gifts? In the Gene Keys, this is where the Prosperity Sequence begins: with the Core Wound—the place where your deepest pain becomes your most profound message.

Now, even though astrology doesn’t account for the same 88-degree vantage point that Human Design and Gene Keys do, you can still uncover your core wounds through your Mars sign and house placement. For example, my Mars is in Leo, but it sits on the unconscious side in the 8th house. Leo is bold, confident, and ready to take center stage… or so it seems. But when it’s hidden in the unconscious, it can bring up the fear of being truly seen—hello, scaredy-cat. The 8th house is all about deep transformation, power, and what's lurking beneath the surface. So, for me, this combo means I had to confront my fear of stepping into the spotlight. It wasn’t just about leading—it was about battling my own insecurities around being worthy enough to lead.

For years, I wrestled with the shadow side of Leo, constantly fearing rejection or that I wasn’t good enough. But here’s the thing: the 8th house is where alchemy happens. It’s the house of transformation, where pain becomes power. Once I started embracing my inner Leo, I realized that the fear was my greatest teacher. Now, I lead from a place of authenticity and courage, knowing that stepping up doesn’t mean I have to be perfect—it just means I have to be me.

Human Design: Alchemizing Pain into Power Through The Unconscious

Let’s dive into Human Design—the energetic pulse that fuels how you lead, act, and show up in the world. Unlike astrology, which shows us conscious placements, Human Design brings in that unconscious energy—the stuff you may not even be fully aware of but is still driving your every move.

One of the key places we look is at your Mars placement, which, on the unconscious side (left hand in red), often reveals where you’ve struggled or felt blocked in life. For me, unconscious Mars sits in Gate 31.1, the Gate of Influence. This is in the Throat Center, which is all about communication, manifestation, and—let’s be real—being heard, add in the fact that I am a 6/2 splenic projector and this is a huge life theme for us!

Here’s the catch: Gate 31 is about leadership, but in its shadow, it can feel like you’re constantly holding back or afraid to step into that role. For years, this shadow showed up as a fear of using my voice. I doubted whether anyone would actually listen, and it felt like my words didn’t matter. Sound familiar?

The real transformation happened when I realized that this wound—this mess—was actually the key to my message. I was here to alchemize that fear into power by learning to express my voice authentically. Gate 31.1 is the leader who leads by example, using her voice not to control but to influence and empower. When I embraced that, everything shifted.

Now, I lead from a place of self-expression—no longer waiting for permission but trusting that my voice, my words, and my message are powerful enough to lead others. This gate taught me that self-led leadership is where my influence truly lies, and it’s the same for you. The Gene Keys offer a pathway to transform your deepest wounds into your greatest gifts.
