In a world of conformity, how do you stay true to your authentic self?

I know kids in school were having a problem with this. Let's take clothing, for example. When I went to school (many moons ago), if I wasn't wearing brand name clothes, I was bullied. Bad. I feel that we have come a long way with this. I see so many kids freely expressing themselves with multicolored hair, unisex clothing, and feeling more freedom to express themselves. As I am writing this blog, the song "coat of many colors" by Dolly Parton came to mind.

As a soulpreneur, I see this play out as well. For a long time, I was scared to come out of my "woo closet." Talking to other women in spiritual businesses, I am having so many reach out with the same concern. Being seen and heard, showing up as our authentic selves, and worrying about judgment.

It takes a lot of courage to express yourself freely. To be a little different from the "status quo," we need wayshowers to lead as an example. When we compromise ourselves, it takes its toll with repression, bitterness, anger, and not having honest relationships with others, hiding our true selves.
